Charlie "Perry" Jenkins, age 95, of Glenwood, died Thursday, October 8, 2009, in the Glenwood Nursing Home.
Perry was born January 8, 1914, in Howard County, the ninth child of Lewis Jamerson and Nancy Elizabeth Strasner Jenkins. He was the last of his siblings to pass from this world into the arms of his Savior.
Perry loved to fish, garden and visit with friends and relatives. The last fourteen years, he was a resident of the Oak Park Village Retirement Center where he raised a garden every summer, played dominoes with his friends and courted the ladies. Perry was a member of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews, including special niece and nephew/caretaker, Danny Joe Jenkins and his wife, Gwen, of Glenwood and Beth Jenkins White and her husband, Emmitt, of Langley.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, October 11, 2009, at the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Bro. Keith Shewbart and Bro. Harold Turner officiating.
Visitation will be held Saturday evening, 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
Interment will be in the Glenwood Cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.
Pallbearers will be his great-grand nephews, Gene Horn, T. J. Jenkins, Danny Jenkins, Eric Jenkins, Johnny Jenkins and Tim Cogburn.
Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews, and Stephen White, Ronald Jenkins and Tex Burgess.
