When John Washington Benton was born on February 28, 1839, in Jackson, Georgia, his father, William, was 38 and his mother, Philey, was 34. He married Rachel G Burkett-Benton on March 29, 1859, in Pleasant Grove, Arkansas. They had 14 children in 39 years. He died on January 26, 1908, in Gravel Hill, Arkansas, at the age of 68, and was buried in White, Arkansas.
