Claude Bennett Church, 44, a vice president of the Exchange Bank and Trust Co. and a member of the El Dorado City Council died Sunday morning at his home, 714 E. Seventh St. Mr. Church was born in El Dorado July 1, 1926, and was the son of Claudie L. and Vernie Bennett Church. He had been a member of the City Council for the past nine years and was presently serving on the Airport Commission. He was a naval veteran of World War II and was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a former member of the Board of the Greater El Dorado Chamber of Commerce and a former Senior member of the TAC House Board. He had once served as treasurer of the DeSoto Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Louise Cunningham Church, El Dorado; a son, Sgt. Douglas Cunningham Church, Ft. Devins, Mass.; a daughter, Miss Claudia Louise Church, Louisiana Tech, Ruston, La; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claudie L. Church of El Dorado. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church with Dr. Don Harbuck officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery under direction of Rumph Mortuary. Pallbearers will be Louis Hurley, Edward Hurley, William W. Thomas, J. C. Craighead, N. G. Hammond, Lawrence Powell, James Ludwig and Stan Gillis. Honorary pallbearers will be Mayor I. L. Pesses, members of the El Dorado City Council, J. V. Spencer, Jr., J. V. Spencer, III, Dr. Robert Lacy, W. R. Baker, Frank Goolsby, James Goolsby, Dr. Jacob Ellis, employes and directors of the Exchange Bank and Trust Co. The family has requested that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church or to the donor's choice of charity. The public will be seated after 2 p.m. (El Dorado Times - March 1, 1971)
