Three-year-old Amy J. McLaughlin, of Rt. 1, Winslow, was killed Friday at 5:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 71 one half mile north of Brentwood in an accident involving two vehicles and a 10-ton truck according to State Police Trooper Charles Brooks.
The Winslow girl was riding in a car driven by her mother Gina, 23, and her three-month-old brother, Justin. Mrs. McLaughlin was reported in fair condition in the Intensive Care Unit at Washington Regional Medical Center and Justin was listed in good condition Saturday night, according to a hospital spokesman.
The McLaughlin car was headed north on Hwy. 71 when a car driven by Artist Jordan, 64, of 706 S. School Ave., pulled out from a country road in front of the McLaughlin car.
Mrs. McLaughlin swerved and tried to miss hitting the rear of the Jordan car but struck it, crossed over the center line and was hit by a truck driven by Columbus Baty, 23, of Fort Smith.
Jordan was charged with failure to yield and no drivers license. Baty was not charged.
Amy Jeanette McLaughlin was born Dec. 27, 1974, at Fayetteville, the daughter of John and Gina Mavis McLaughlin and was a Jehovah's Witness.
Survivors in addition to her parents and brother include her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Audrey Mavis of West Fork and her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Darlene Fezler of Fargo, N.D.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Nelson Funeral Home Chapel, Fayetteville, with Dwaine Allen officiating. Private burial will be in West Fork Cemetery.
