Edward McFerrin Downs, Jr., 68, of Searcy passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2009 in Little Rock.

Mr. Downs was born February 26, 1941 in, Slayden, Mississippi, the son of Edward M. Downs, Sr. and Nellye Gray Hurdle Downs. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and a member of First Presbyterian Church. He was a retired farm equipment sales manager. Mr. Downs also served as a bailiff for Judge Craig Hannah.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Patricia Ann Burke Downs of Searcy; daughters, Edie Ann Hightower and husband, Jeremy, Patti Jana Pence, and Ferrin Patrice Vest and husband, Robert "Bo" all of Searcy; four grandchildren, Ashlynn Brooke Hightower, Alexandria McFerrin Hightower, Dallas Lynn Pence, and Merritt Gabrielle Vest.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Edward McFerrin Downs, III; twin granddaughters, Margaret Lynn and Addison Mae Pence.

Mr. Downs was an avid hunter and horseman. He loved his girls and found his greatest peace and contentment in being Papa to his four beautiful grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by his family.


Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Youth Group, C/O Judy Benson or the United Way of White County.
