When Joseph Brown Boatman was born on November 6, 1867, in Izard, Arkansas, his father, Charles, was 26 and his mother, Sarah, was 22. He married Annie Elizabeth Watson on November 24, 1889, in his hometown. They had three children during their marriage. He died on April 27, 1943, in Little Rock, Arkansas, at the age of 75, and was buried in Mayflower, Arkansas.
