Joe Dan Byars, Sr, 67, of Fort Smith, Arkansas, died Sunday, July 15, 2007 in a Little Rock hospital. Joe was born May 16, 1940 to William "Buddy" and Cathline "Billie" Byars.Joe was raised, and received his early education in Alma, Arkansas graduating from Alma High School. Joe married his high school sweetheart, Ann on June 2, 1961. He joined the Army and served as a Second Lieutenant, in the tank command in Korea. After he was Honorably Discharged he received his Bachelors Degree in Business and began his successful career in the insurance business in 1965. He served as General Agent for Aetna Life and Casualty in Fort Smith, Memphis, Tennessee and in Houston, Texas. Joe returned to Fort Smith in 1981. He was the principal of the Byars Agency, serving his life insurance clientele not only with a high level of skill and integrity but as a caring friend.Joe was a member of First United Methodist Church of Fort Smith and was a member of the Round table Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Byars of Fort Smith, sons, Joe Byars, Jr and wife Carla of Fort Smith, Arkansas, William Blake Byars of Hot Springs, Arkansas, and Andrew Scott Byars of Fort Smith, Arkansas, sister, Georgianna McKown and husband Conrad of North Little Rock, Arkansas, brother Randall Byars and wife Janice of Little Rock, Arkansas, two daughter-in-laws, Dana Byars and Kris Ann Byars and grand children Kat, Nick, Beckett, Will, Ben and Sam Byars.
Pallbearers were Carl Davis, Eddie Christian, Morgan Bryant, John Gillenwater, Buddy McMahon, Doug Moore, Sam Sicard and Marshall Yantis.
Honorary Pallbearers were members of the Round Table Sunday School Class
