James Morgan Braswell, 83, of DeWitt died December 11, 2017, at his home with his family by his side. He was born June 26, 1934 in Norphlet, AR, to Morgan Durrett Braswell and Minnie Kate Clark Braswell.

James was a member of Red Bluff Hunting Club and the former owner and printer of the DeWitt Era-Enterprise. In February 1996, he was awarded the Golden Fifty Newspaper Service Award by the Arkansas Press Association for over 50 years of service to the newspaper industry of Arkansas. During DeWitt's 150th celebration of its founding, James was given an award recognizing the DeWitt Era-Enterprise, founded in 1882, for being the oldest continually run business in DeWitt.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

James is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marilyn Eldridge Braswell; two daughters Vickie Rabeneck of Fayetteville and Kim Nutt of DeWitt; three grandchildren Jamie Eaton (James), Kyla Bryant (Bart), and John Howard Nutt (Samantha); five great grandchildren Jack and Abby Eaton, Boone and Holdyn Bryant, and Hayden Nutt; two brothers Bill Braswell (Carolyn) of DeWitt and Jon Braswell (Wendy) of Russellville; four sisters Pat Vansandt (Donald) of DeWitt, Beth Hollanger of Almyra, Joan Hornbeck (Waymon) of DeWitt, and Kay Cook (Bill) of Little Rock.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 14 at First United Methodist Church in DeWitt with visitation one hour before the service. Burial will follow in Cedarcrest Memorial Gardens by Essex Funeral Home. Casual dress is requested.
