A man hit while changing a flat tire on Interstate 540 dies from his injuries, after being in the hospital for two days.

A family member tells 5NEWS Joshua Mcmath, 28, of Mulberry died at Northwest Medical Center Sunday at 8:42 p.m.

Arkansas State Police say Mcmath was changing a tire on a Ford Focus Wagon when he was hit by a pick-up truck driven by David Brown, 26, of Fort Smith.

ASP troopers say it happened around 8:45 a.m. Friday in the northbound lanes of Interstate 540, just north of the Bobby Hopper Tunnel and the Devil's Den State Park exit.

Troopers shut down a portion of the interstate to allow a medical helicopter to land. Emergency crews performed CPR on McMath before he was taken by helicopter to Northwest Medical Center.

A family member says Mcmath leaves behind a four year-old daughter.
