Bruce Randolph Peevy, 88, passed away Monday, March 31, 2014, in his home in Mulberry as a result of a long-term illness. He was born in Dyer on November 28, 1925, to Sarah Vashti and Burl Peevy. He lived 55 years in Gatesville, Texas, before returning to Arkansas in his retirement for the last 9 years.He is survived by his devoted wife of 66 years, Wilma; 3 daughters, Kay Rice and husband Britt of College Station, Texas, Pam Fuller and husband Mike of New Braunfels, Texas, and Paula Safarik and husband Arnie of Taylor, Texas; 3 brothers, Vilus Adelaide Peevy and wife Clara, Thell Lee Peevy and wife Reba and Randall Dean Peevy and wife Pat, all of Alma; 6 grandchildren, Jason and Justin Rice, Traci and Travis Fuller, Amber Place and Ashley (Bradley) Louder; and 1 great-grandson, Henry Rice.He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Burl Ray, Roger Leon and Walter Rome; and his sister, Mary Alice Boatright. He served three years in the Army during World War II and at the end of his service, Bruce met and married Wilma Gaines on June 12, 1946. They moved to Texas in 1949, where Bruce continued his civil service work at Fort Hood Army Base. He served as a deacon at both Mountain Baptist and Live Oak Baptist churches in Gatesville. Bruce was also active in the Gatesville Boys Little League, where he served as a coach and umpire. He was recently inducted into the Gatesville Wall of Honor for his extended years of service to the baseball community. Bruce remained an avid fan of Arkansas football his entire life.
Pallbearers will be Travis Fuller, Jason Rice, Justin Rice, Bradley Louder, Andrew Jimerson and Jason Brockenbush.
Bruce loved giving to others but mostly to his grandchildren and always added, "With no strings attached."
