When John Washington McCoy was born on August 15, 1876, in Arkansas, his father, James, was 19 and his mother, Sarah, was 21. He married Menerva Clementine Scroggins in 1897. They had three children in 12 years. He died on March 19, 1958, at the age of 81, and was buried in Center Ridge, Arkansas.
