S. B. "Pete" McCall, 79, for more than 20 years postmaster of El Dorado, died in a local hospital Wednesday morning after a week's illness. A well known Union County farmer and businessman, Mr. McCall took an active interest in politics prior to his retirement. He was a former deputy sheriff of Union County and a state senator. As president pro tem of the Senate, he served as acting governor of Arkansas for a short time during the absence from the state of Gov. Tom Terrall. Mr. McCall was El Dorado's postmaster from April, 1935, until his retirement in March, 1968. He was the first president of the Arkansas Postmasters Association. Born at Mt. Holly March 7, 1888, the son of James A. and Mariah Thurman McCall, he was a lifelong resident of Union County and a member of First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Willie Nelson McCall; a daughter, Mrs. Louise McCall Hogan of North Little Rock; a stepson Ceil Doson Robinson of McAllen, Tex.; three grandsons, Tyrus Eugene Hogan, Jr. and Charles Wallace Robinson, both of Dallas, and William McCall Hogan of North Little Rock; and four great grandchildren. Funeral services have been announced for Thursday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Rumph Mortuary with the Rev. John Barton and the Rev. Gary Jones officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery under the direction of Rumph Mortuary. The McCall family will be at the home of Mrs. Curtis Crumpler, 814 West Main St. (El Dorado Times - November 15, 1967)
