Virgil Fields, age 90, passed after a brief illness in his home in Taylor on Friday, Nov 27, 2015. Born in Taylor on February 14, 1925, the third son of R. Houston and Annie Fields, who along with his brothers, Eugene, Nolan and Donald, preceded him in death.

On October 4, 1951 he married Elizabeth Jane (Betty) Whipple of Springhill. Their marriage lasted over 56 years until her death in March 2008. Virgil served in the US Army during WWII, including 1944-45 in France, Belgium and Germany. He was a member of the Taylor Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years & the Taylor VFW Post. He worked as a welder for International Paper in Springhill for nearly 30 years, and another 8 years at the IP Mill near Texarkana.

He is survived by all six of their children, Reggie & Linda Fields of Wylie, Texas; Susan and John David Gosdin of Magnolia; Terry and Jackie Fields of Taylor; Jane Fields of Arkadelphia; Kent and Brenda Fields of Pasadena, Texas; and Stan Fields of Magnolia. Also by eight grandchildren. And fourteen great-grandchildren; along with several nieces and nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at the Lewis Funeral Home Chapel in Magnolia on Monday, Nov 30th at 10:30 am with Brother Jerry Evans officiating, followed by burial at the Taylor Municipal Cemetery.
