November 3, 1897 - July 5, 1995
Miss Alverne "Verna" Elizabeth LOCKHART, 97, of Camden, died Wednesday, July 5.
She was a descendant of a prominent pioneer family in Ouachita County. Born
Nov. 3, 1897, she was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.D. Lockhart and the
granddaughter of Cicero Harwell and Melissa Hodnett. An accomplished pianist
and organist, she was a musician at the local opera house and played for the
movie theater during the days of silent movies. She served as pianist and
organist at First United Methodist Church where she was the oldest member of the
church. She joined the church in 1911, and church records indicate that she was
the 73rd member. Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Proctor Chapel with the
Rev. David Prothro officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery by Proctor
Funeral Home.
