Jesse Stark Cheek, III, 64, of El Dorado, died Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at Medical Center of South Arkansas.

Born on January 5, 1949, in El Dorado, he was the son of Jesse S. Cheek, Jr. and Polly Cheek. He was veteran of the U.S. Navy and retired from Miller Transporters. He had been a foster parent to 20 foster children and received the Jim Miles Advocacy Award for his advocacy on their behalf. In his younger years he enjoyed square dancing with the Swingin’ Promenaders. His passions were reading (especially western novels and science fiction); collecting gargoyles, tending to his numerous house plants, woodworking, and being a handyman to assist people who needed something fixed or built when he was physically able. He was also a dog lover and had many pet dogs over the years with his last adored pet being “Buffy”.

He was preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Pansy Cheek, who raised him from a young boy after his mother died; his father; and sister, Carol Ann Cheek White; and “Buffy”.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Michelle Bryant of Florida; two brothers, Charles R. Cheek (Ellen) of Yorktown, NewYork, and Bart Cheek of Sandyland; one grandson, Caleb Westerbuhr of Warren, Arkansas; nephews, Charles A. Cheek (Cindy) of Somers, New York, Eric Cheek (Elena) of White Plains, New York and Seth Erwin of Malvern, Arkansas; the Odie Blackmon family of Nashville, Tennessee who he adopted in his heart; special friend Lynda Cheek Richardson, and numerous other extended family and friends who loved and respected him.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rest Haven Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Perry’s Funeral Chapels.

Pallbearers are: Bart Cheek; Charles R. Cheek; Steven Murphy; David Hilliard, Luis Morales, Mike Rowin, and Kullen O’Brien.

The family would like to thank the home health nurses who gave such good compassionate care to Jesse during the last few months. No more struggles and suffering…rest in peace daddy, brother, uncle, and faithful friend. We miss you.
