September 27, 1894 - October 15, 1969
Fred Edward Ross, 75, of 810 East Cedar St. died Wednesday morning from an apparent heart attack. He was pronounced dead on arrival at a local hospital after reportedly collapsing on a sidewalk in the downtown area around 9:45 a.m. Born Sept. 27, 1894, in Buena Vista, he was the son of Will and Frances Rogers Ross. He was a retired captain on the El Dorado Police force and had served as a law enforcement officer in the Union County Sheriff's Department. He was a member of St. Paul Methodist Church. A Master Mason, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge no. 13, F & AM, and a veteran of World War I. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Elma Connor Ross, El Dorado; two sons, James Edward Ross and Clinton F. Ross, both of El Dorado; five sisters, Mrs. R. H. Peace, El Dorado, Mrs. Claude Robinson and Mrs. Earl McGaughey, both of Camden, Mrs. Barbara Tutt, Magnolia, and Mrs. Jewell Simmons, Rison. Funeral services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery under the direction of Young's. (Camden News - October 16, 1969)
