A 53-year-old El Dorado man died Sunday afternoon at his home from a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the chest. The Union County Coroner's Office identified the man as Ernest Patrick Shelton of 1035 Marsh Ave. and ruled suicide in the death. He was born Oct. 6, 1916 in Nashville, Tenn. and was a senior operator at Monsanto Chemical Co. He was a veteran of WW II and a member of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Helen Lynch Shelton, El Dorado; two sons, Edmond S. Shelton and Robert P. Shelton, both of El Dorado; two daughters, Miss Patricia Ann Shelton, El Dorado, and Mrs. Catherine Lynn Anders, Alexandria, La.; four brothers, Hugh Shelton, Nashville, Tenn., Ben Shelton, Tulsa, Okla., George Shelton, Jena, La., and Robert Shelton, Champagne, Ill., a sister, Mrs. John Ivy, Nashville, Tenn., one grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church with the Rev. Albert Marthez officiating. Burial will follow in Arlington Cemetery under the direction of Young's. Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday in Young's Chapel. (El Dorado Times - March 9, 1970)
