Sammie Joe Little Drowns

A 24-year-old Fayetteville carpenter was drowned about 5 p.m. yesterday while fishing in the Illinois River near Siloam Springs.

Companions said Sammie Joe Little apparently stepped into swift, deep water when he waded into the stream to free a tangled line. The body was recovered an hour later by Siloam Springs firemen.

Little was fishing with Bob and Harold Walker of Farmington Route 1 when the accident occurred. Unable to locate the body by diving, rescue workers resorted to drags before they were successful.

Born April 14, 1937, at Greenland, the victim had lived in Fayetteville for some time.

Surviving are a daughter, Sheryl Kay Little of Roswell, N.M.; two sons, Joey Dean and Kenny Ray Little, both of Roswell; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sam Little of Greenland; two sisters, Mrs. Imogene Sivage of Fayetteville and Mrs. Maxine Gentry of Manhattan, Kan.; and one brother, Don Little of Greenland.
