Vernon Swopes, 47, former resident of the Goshen community, died Tuesday at Uriah, Calif. He had resided in California for about four years. A mechanic, he was a member of the Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge at Goshen. He was born June 21, 1904, at Spicard, Mo.
He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. J.T. Kirland, Mrs. John Russell, Miss June Swopes, and Miss Jerry Swopes, and two sons, John and Don Swopes, all of Seymour, Conn.; four brothers, Mart A. and Luther N., both of Whittier, Calif., Virgil C., of Fayettevlle, RFD, and George V., of Siloam Springs; five sisters, Mrs. L.W. Beaver, Mrs. Mabel Beaver, and Mrs. Wanda Brown, all of Fayetteville; Mrs. Elmer Kercheval of Ordway, Colo., and Mrs. Nancy Shoemaker of Osceola, Mo.
The body will be brought here for funeral services. Arrangements in charge of Nelson's Funeral Home, are incomplete.
