ROGERS — Stanley Monroe Nelson, 98. of Rogers, Ark., died Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at his home. He was born Jan. 15, 1915, in Carver County, Minn., to Sam and Amanda (Borgeson) Nelson.
He grew up on a dairy farm in rural Minnesota and continued farming on the family farm. On Dec. 21, 1966, he married Elverna Tegeler of Ganado, Texas. He later retired from farming and moved his family to Rogers, Ark., in 1977. He loved the Lord deeply and was a longtime member of Hope Community Bible Church in Rogers, Ark.
Stanley had many interests and was very active for most of his life, planting a very large garden every year and making firewood to use and sell. Birdwatching was one of his favorite pastimes. He enjoyed visiting with neighbors and was always ready to give an account for the hope that was within him. (1 Peter 3:15)
Preceded in death by one brother, Gordon Nelson; one sister, Doris Dahlberg; Stanley is survived by his wife of 47 years, Elverna Tegeler Nelson; one son, Craig Stanley Nelson of Tulsa, Okla.; two daughters, Sandra King and husband, Drew, of Old Lyme, Conn., Dawn Whorton and husband, Rob, of Rogers, Ark,; seven grandchildren; one sister, June Holstrom and husband, Jim, of Buffalo, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Irmgarde Nelson of Chisago City, Minn.; numerous nieces, nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at the Life Restoration Center (former location of Hope Community Bible Church), 2300 S. 13th St., in Rogers, Ark.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hope Community Bible Church of Rogers, Ark., (www.hopecbc.org); or to the Christian Fellowship Union of McAllen, Texas, (www.cfunion.org) in honor of Stanley Monroe Nelson.
