When Allen Carroll Ross was born on November 5, 1852, in Hardeman, Tennessee, his father, Thomas, was 23 and his mother, Martha, was 20. He married Margaret Jane Lutrell Ross in 1873. They had three children during their marriage. He died on August 1, 1929, in Greenbrier, Arkansas, at the age of 76, and was buried there.
