Walter S. Yerton Jr., 81, of Lavaca, formerly of Fort Smith/Massard, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2003, in a local hospital. He was a retired materials clerk for OG&E, a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the Methodist Church. Funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with burial at Barling Cemetery in Barling. He is survived by his wife, Bettye of the home; a daughter, Laura Adkins and her husband Kris of Little Rock; a son, Stan Yerton and his wife Georgianna of Edmond, Okla.; and two grandchildren, Kelly Yerton and Caleb Yerton both of Edmond. Pallbearers will be Zeke Burns, Allen Branham, Glen Jones, Tim Mullins, Mitch Neal and Don Bignham. Honorary pallbearers will be Roger Dew, Jim Harwood, Curtis Perryman, Ron and Daniel Davis, Maurice Green, Larry Walker, L.D. Jones and Claybourn Freeman.
