PEE DEE CEMETERY
Written by Clarice Goldman Lefler in 1963.

The Pee Dee Community and cemetery took their names from Pee Dee Creek
that flows through the community. The creek got its name from a tribe
of Indians by the name of Pee Dee that lived in a cave at the head of
the creek.

The first person buried here was a man by the name of Pvt. Elbert
Williams. He was killed in Stone County by Jayhawkers during the Civil
War and was buried on the farm now known as the Johnny Broyles farm in
the Meadows Community. Mrs. Elbert Williams and three cousins, Mary
Stobaugh, Sarah Williams and Patsy Williams drove an ox wagon to the
Meadows and hauled lumber to a cave where a box was made by a neighbor
who was hiding from the Jayhawkers. Mrs. Mary Pistol Hewman, Mrs. Polly
"Pop" Dowdy helped dig the grave.

Note;
However, I did not find any connection to the Civil War, dates, or other history.
